What Are School To Career Programs?

How would you like to spend part of your junior, or senior year preparing for a career by actually being employed in the local workforce?  The Wisconsin Rapids Public School District has a variety of opportunities for students to get hands-on, minds-on career experience through the School To Career Programs.  Students will explore a career area, earn high school credit, advanced standing credit, make connections between education and work, and earn wages, all while attending classes at Lincoln High School.  It is a great opportunity for a student to see relevance in what he/she is learning in the classroom that leads to career opportunities in business and industry.

All programs are competitive and subject to business and industry availabilities.

GET INVOLVED!

Job  Shadows

A Job Shadow is a school/community experience that allows students to observe people in the community as they perform their regular job duties. Job Shadowing is a short-term, usually 2-6 hours), workplace learning opportunity, with an emphasis on exploration, not work.  Since Job Shadowing is exploratory in nature, most students will benefit from several job shadowing experiences over the course of several years.

How do students get  involved
in these programs?

Interested students must apply for  this program through their counselor or Mr. Siler, the Career and Technical Education Coordinator.  Selection is based on career interest, skills, employability, attitude, personality, GPA, attendance, number of high school credits, and recommendations.
