An employee shall be paid for scheduled time lost in case of a death in the employee's immediate family (spouse, children, father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister, brother, domestic partner, sister-in-law or brother-in-law) but not to exceed three (3) working days. Bereavement leave days do not need to be used consecutively.
One (1) day of bereavement leave shall be granted for the purpose of attending the funeral in the event of the death of an employee's grandparent or grandchild.
The Superintendent or Director of Human Resources may grant one (1) day of bereavement leave to attend the funeral of person or persons not listed above, for special circumstances, after consultation with the employee affected. Such leave will be deducted from accumulated sick leave. Bereavement leave for attending the funeral of individuals that are not the employee’s immediate family, as listed above, shall not exceed three (3) bereavement leave days per year.
Additional Time: If additional time off becomes necessary and is requested by the employee and approved by the Superintendent, then up to five (5) days of accumulated sick leave may be used.
