Tips for Making First Grade Fantastic!
Have your child read the newest book from the book bag each night, even if it was read the night before. Reading familiar books helps build expression and fluency. Encourage your child to use reading strategies to decode tricky words. Sounding out words is one strategy, however, reading on and going back to see what looks and sounds right is just as important. Another way to help your child is to have your child practice reading and spelling word wall words. Look for a baggy in the book bag for current word wall words.
Math homework often comes home on Tuesdays and is expected to come back to school by Friday. It is important for you to familiarize yourself with the current math strategies shared in the math letters sent home and give support when needed.
Working together, we will make your child's first grade experience a positive success!
