Notice of Educational Options

NOTICE OF EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS RESIDING IN THE WISCONSIN RAPIDS PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Wisconsin Rapids Public School District (WRPS) offers a variety of educational options to students who reside within District attendance boundaries.

The District offers educational programming beginning as early as 4-year old Kindergarten up through grade 12. Early childhood programming is also available for students needing early intervention.

Following is a listing of specific programming available at WRPS:

Early childhood special education (for students at least three years of age, but not yet school-age)
Special education for students with disabilities
English Language Learner programming
Collaborative community 4K program
Gifted and Talented education
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs
Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education
Building construction trades and family/consumer education programming
Health and physical education
World language, music/theater, and art education studies
Health occupational programs
Individualized program and curriculum modifications
Academic and career preparation including youth apprenticeships and work experience opportunities
Social, emotional, and counseling and student health services
Alternative education program for at-risk students
Summer school learning opportunities
Charter school
Virtual education programming
Intra-District transfer program (boundary exception program allows for students to attend a District school outside of their normal attendance boundary area)
Advanced Placement, transcripted credit, Project Lead the Way, and concurrent enrollment courses (the LHS Program of Studies provides more details)
Early College Credit Program (ECCP) which allows Wisconsin public high school students in grades 9-12 to take courses during the fall, spring, or summer semesters to earn college credit at an institution of higher education. Information about ECCP may be obtained from a student's school counselor. Applications and admissions requirements can be obtained from individual institutions of higher education.
Start College Now allows high school students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to take college courses at Wisconsin Technical Colleges.
Part-Time Public School Open Enrollment allows any student enrolled full-time in the high school grades in the District to attend public high school in a nonresident school district for the purpose of taking a course offered by the nonresident school district. A pupil may attend no more than two courses at any time in nonresident school districts.

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) issues school district accountability reports and individual School Report Cards in accordance with Wisconsin Statutes.

You can access these reports through the following link: https://dpi.wi.gov/accountability/report-cards or by going to the individual school website. You will be able to select the report for the entire WRPS district, or for any individual school within the District.

Report card scores are based upon 2023-24 data. The overall WRPS District Report Card score for 2023-24 is Meets Expectations.

Other Educational Options

Other educational options for students include:

Youth Apprenticeship programming - learn more by reviewing the LHS Program of Studies
Full-time open enrollment involving physical attendance in a public school of a nonresident district or attendance through a virtual charter school that is associated with a nonresident school district;
Participation in the state's "Special Needs Scholarship Program" by students with a disability who meet the program's specific eligibility requirements;
Enrollment in a private school of the family's choosing (at the family's own cost or through the Private Choice Program as applicable);
Enrollment in a home-based private educational program as provided for under state law.

Options for Private School or Home-Based Students

Additional educational options for students residing in the WRPS district but who are enrolled in and attending a private school or home-based educational program include:

Participation in WRPS summer school programming;
Home-based education program students may apply for approval to take up to two courses per semester at WRPS subject to available space, and/or participate in District interscholastic athletics and other co-curricular activities pursuant to section 118.53 and 118.133 of Wisconsin state statutes;
Private school students in grades 9-12 may apply for approval to take up to two courses per semester at WRPS pursuant to Wisconsin state statutes section 118.145(4) and subject to available space;
