Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame
The Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1985 to recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals who have been a significant part of the Lincoln High School athletic program. Each year a screening committee selects individuals for induction, with a ceremony being held at a Lincoln home football game. A permanent recognition plaque of all Hall of Fame athletes are displayed in the athletic hallway of the Lincoln High School field house.

Congratulations to our 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees
- Sue Poeschl, a trailblazer in high school cheerleading, will be inducted into the Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame after more than three decades of extraordinary impact. Beginning her career coaching softball, she soon built one of the most successful cheer programs in state and national history, guiding teams to multiple All-Girl, Division, and Coed State Championships and 13 National Coed Titles between 1994 and 2011. A founding member of the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches, she was named Wisconsin Coach of the Year in 2009 and inducted into both the Cheer Coach Hall of Fame and Wisconsin Spirit Hall of Fame. Beyond competitive success, Poeschl founded the Dream Team for athletes with special needs, led camps and events across the state, and mentored generations of student-athletes. Her legacy is defined by excellence, inclusion, and unwavering dedication to youth development.
- Jim Hamel, one of the most decorated wrestlers in Lincoln High School history, will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. A four-time All-Conference, Regional, and Sectional Champion, Hamel earned podium finishes at the state tournament all four years, including back-to-back individual state titles in 1984 and 1985, and helped lead Lincoln to a WIAA Team State Championship in 1985. He graduated as the school’s all-time winningest wrestler with a record of 128-6-1. A National Honor Society member and FFA President, Hamel continued his success at the University of Minnesota as a four-time varsity letter winner and four-time Academic All-American. Now a partner and managing director at Artisan Partners, he continues to give back through the Hamel Family Foundation, supporting youth and educational initiatives.
- Jere Hamel, one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Lincoln High School history, will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding career and lasting impact. A two-time WIAA State Champion with a 144-14 career record, including an undefeated 40-0 season in 1991, Hamel was a four-time conference champion and key contributor to Lincoln’s 1989 State Championship team and multiple state runner-up finishes. He continued his success at UW–Stevens Point, earning three NCAA All-American honors, two conference titles, and team MVP in 1996 while helping the Pointers to four conference championships. After college, Hamel built a career in the forestry and manufacturing industries and now runs his own business, continuing to demonstrate the leadership and work ethic that defined his athletic journey.
