Singing in Wisconsin (SIW) is an annual, inclusive, non-auditioned festival choir experience for all Wisconsin singers in grades 4-12 - from the seasoned choir student to the new singer who is curious to try their first large ensemble. Held every year at four sites across Wisconsin on the second Saturday in November and capped with a public concert, SIW brings together young musicians for a day of choral learning and connecting with the goal of helping to foster a life-long love of singing with others.Check the website for more information.

Mid-State Technical College will host John Mabry, a former Hollywood actor (known for his roles in NCIS, ER, and Superbad), counselor, and nationally recognized mental health and addiction recovery advocate, for a powerful community conversation focused on breaking the silence around mental health and substance use.This event is free thanks to the Wood County Opioid Settlement Grant, awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. However, advance registration is required.Drawing on his own experiences with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorder—including the devastating loss of his brother to a drug overdose—John shares an honest story of struggle, recovery, and resilience. His message emphasizes compassion, connection, and the importance of recognizing what may be happening beneath the surface, even when someone appears to be doing just fine.Through his ACT method—Acknowledge, Choose, Tell— John gives audiences a practical first step toward speaking up, seeking help, and starting meaningful conversations. His message is especially powerful for people who work hard, show up for others, and may be carrying more than anyone around them knows.John’s story is ultimately a story of hope: that breaking the silence can be the beginning of a comeback.This event is open to all community members.
