College Board’s Advanced Placement Program

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school. Based on their performance on rigorous AP Examinations, students can earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for college. Students who intend to apply for college admission and are willing to accept the challenge of a rigorous academic curriculum should strongly consider enrolling in at least one AP course during their sophomore, junior or senior year.

AP Exams represent the culmination of AP courses and are thus an integral part of the program. As a result, Lincoln High School fosters the expectation that students who enroll in an AP course will go on to take the corresponding AP Exam. Because the College Board is committed to providing access to AP Exams to all students, it does not require students to take an AP course prior to taking an AP Exam. However, students are highly encouraged to take a formal AP course at Lincoln High School before completing the corresponding AP exam. There will be a fee for each exam. This fee is determined by the college board.

AP Scholar Awards

The AP Program offers several AP Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on any AP score report that is sent to college in the following fall.

AP Scholar – Granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams.
AP Scholar with Honor – Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.
AP Scholar with Distinction – Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
State AP Scholar – Granted to the one male and one female student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia with scores of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams, and then the highest average score (at least 3.5) on all AP Exams taken.

LHS AP Exam Registration Dates for a class that begins in:

Term 1 is November 1, 2025
Term 2 is February 1, 2026
Term 3 is March 10, 2026

To Register: Return the 2026 AP Exam Registration Form and check (payable to Lincoln High School) to Lisa Wendt in the main office before your registration deadline date.

The fee for each exam is $99.
An additional fee (by LHS and/or College Board) will be assessed for late registrations.
Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch will have this fee waived per Wisconsin state law (Stat. sec. 120.12(22)).
Full refunds will not be issued. The College Board requires a processing fee for exams that are returned unused. Partial refunds will be issued only after final billing and payment have been received and cleared by the College Board.

Accommodations:

Does your AP student have documented accommodations for taking tests? Those accommodations may not automatically be approved for AP exams. Check in the Success Center if you have questions about your student's status. Obtaining approval for accommodations is a lengthy process that needs to begin by late fall in order to meet College Board deadlines.

Home-Schooled Students and Students from Other School Districts:

We welcome you to test at LHS SUBJECT TO AVAILABLE SPACE and SUBJECT EXAMS being administered in a particular year. Be aware that College Board policies allow for additional fees to be charged for students not attending LHS. You should contact the AP Coordinator by October 15, 2021, if you wish to apply to take AP exams at Lincoln HS.

Policies for administering alternate AP Exams:

Occasionally, circumstances make it necessary for students to test late. Situations under which the AP Program authorizes schools to conduct late testing appear below. To preserve the security of AP Exams, alternate forms are used for late testing. All students who participate in late testing at a given school must take these alternate exams on the scheduled late-testing dates at the scheduled times. Early testing is not permitted under any circumstances. Visit the late-testing schedule for the complete list of dates.

Reasons for which late testing (using an alternate form of the exam) will and will not be allowed are listed below. Only those students affected by the conflict may test late; all other students must test on the regularly scheduled date.

Some circumstances are generally beyond the control of school officials and students. In such cases, there will be no additional fee for using an alternate form of the exam. Other circumstances are those in which schools or students generally have a choice between accepting the scheduled date and requesting an alternate date. When such situations arise, the school will be billed an additional $45 for each exam to partially defray the costs of developing, scoring, and shipping these alternate exams.

Conflict with International Baccalaureate (IB) exam
Conflict with state-, province-, or nationally-mandated tests
Disabilities accommodation issue
Emergency: bomb scare or fire alarm
Emergency: serious injury, illness, or family tragedy
Language lab scheduling conflict
Religious holiday/observance
School closing: election, a national holiday, or natural disaster
Strike/labor conflict
Three or more AP Exams on the same date
Two AP Exams on the same date and time

Academic contest/event
Athletic contest/event
Conflict with non-AP and non-IB exam
Family commitment
Ordering error
Other school events
School closing (local decision, non-emergency)

* Students who qualify for College Board fee reductions will not incur the $45 charge if alternate testing is required for one of these reasons.
