The SPRING MUSICAL - LHS Theatre Dept

CHICAGO: TEEN EDITION

"In “Roaring Twenties” Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap... until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess," Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal."  ~Concord Theatricals

The Teen Edition transposes vocal ranges to best suit high school students. It also removes many blatant and promiscuous language. As we are in theatre education, we are stylizing “Flapper Chic” and exploring the world of Vaudeville! This is not to be confused with Burlesque, which many see on Broadway and in the 2002 movie. Despite this, the story still remains the same!

Follow us online for updated information. Like and share the “LHS Theatre Dept” Facebook page or follow us @lhs_theatre_dept on Instagram.

Performance dates and times are Thursday, April 30th at 7:00pm, Friday May 1st at 7:00pm, Saturday May 2nd at 7:00pm and Sunday May 3rd at 2:00pm. Tickets are $15 and $10 for students. Tickets are reserved so reserve your tickets online, get them today!

Students Interested in Auditioning

These auditions are for LHS high school students and will be held in the orchestra room (164).

OPTIONAL: Thursday, Jan 29th after school for a musical workshop with Thespian Troupe #525

  • Tuesday, Feb 3, 2026 - during selected timeslots
  • Wednesday, Feb 4, 2026 - during selected timeslots

Sign up for a time slot on one of these days (see below). Even if you'd love a smaller or non-singing roles in the musical, we still would like you to sing for your audition. We are an educational theatre - no experience necessary! Anyone can audition.

Contact Mrs Danke, Mr Krommenakker or Mrs Stoffel for audition questions. You may also visit the LHS Theatre Dept Canvas class.

FAQ on Musical Auditions

  • Sign up one of the days. These time slots are located outside of the choir room by the cafeteria. You do NOT have to attend both days. If these nights do not meet your schedule please let us know ASAP and let's figure out when you can audition!  We want you to audition!
  • Audition packets are found in Parent/Student Square for LHS Theatre Dept. Please ask to be included. These auditions packets have everything you need to know about auditions. They will also be available during lunches sometime in January - stay tuned!
  • Each night is divided into groups.  Please pick which time works best for you while filling in the earliest available spot.
  • Each group has 8 students.  After each student does their sing/act audition, all 8 students in that group will be taught the dance and then will give the final audition in the 15 minutes given to the dance section.  The sing/act audition is closed. Once your group has completed the dance portion together, you are free to leave.
  • There will be scenes to read from (found in the audition packet). You will be using the whole script/score to read from. Same goes for music selections.
  • We are looking for facial expression and listening for voice variation, inflection and pitch.
  • Wear comfortable clothes to move around in for your dance portion. No tennis shoes, boots, crocs or flip-flops please. Flats, character shoes, jazz shoes or anything with a softer sole and is strapped on your foot is perfect. And stretch before the dance section!  As always, remember to "smile and have style!"

Loving the “old school” fashion, we will post a hard copy of the cast on the bulletin board by the LHS Theatre office. It will later be posted online in Parent/Student Square.

Questions?  See Mrs Danke, Mr Krommenakker, or Mrs Stoffel

Students Interested in Tech or Crew

Those wishing to be part of our Tech/Set Team, please see Mrs Danke or Mr Krommenakker and/or LHS Stage Manager(s) for details. If interested, please come one of the audition days to apply for crew. Like auditions, there will be crew packets with all the information needed for musical applications. Like the “LHS Theatre Dept” facebook page or follow us @lhs_theatre_dept on Instragram.

The weeks of April 20th and 27th are TECH weeks!
