Reading Building Plan
2008-2009
Reading Team Members: Michele Skibba, Kristina, Carlin, Carol Katzmark, Jill Thom, Paul Mann
Literacy Goals: (Minimum of 3 – consider areas of student achievement, literacy teams, parent involvement and communication/collaboration)
1. Literacy teams will meet:
a. Monthly in grades 3-4
b. Bi-monthly in grades 5-6
c. Monthly in grades K-2
2. Increase the number of family reading opportunities in conjunction with open library nights to one per quarter
3. Teachers to keep parent communication logs for their students
4. Keep working on our school wide initiative of closing the gaps: this year’s emphasis vocabulary.
Program of Service: (Consider what will be offered and grade levels – Reading Recovery, FIRST, reading specialist, classroom, special education, ELL)
1. Reading Recovery – grade 1
2. Intervention groups – grade 1
3. Intervention in grades K and 2 as need shows and staffing is available
4. Fluency instructional aide
5. Child Studies
6. RTI teams
7. Special education
8. Speech/Language services
Literacy Team Meetings: (A minimum of 4 literacy team meeting should be held throughout the school year. Consider schedules, facilitators, topics.)
1. Share facilitator roll in grade 1. Other grades not ready for this yet.
2. All specialists and grade teachers, reading staff and admin attending.
3. First meeting in Sept.
4. Goals of meeting monthly in most grades (bi monthly in 5-6)
Communication/Collaboration: (Consider plan for communication/collaboration between classroom teachers and reading staff.)
1. Reading staff to meet bi-monthly
2. Collaboration at literacy meetings, or more often as needed
3. Grade levels meet monthly or more as needed
4. Special educators and regular educators collaboration release time scheduled
5. Grades 2-6 collaboration release time scheduled
Parent Involvement: (A minimum of 2 parent involvement activities should be scheduled for the 2008-2009 school year.)
