LEAP (Lincoln’s Educational Alternative Program)
|
The purpose of LEAP is to help students who are having problems in the regular academic setting. Units for LEAP classes involve ways to deal with reasons for students' difficulties. LEAP teachers try to provide students with experiences to increase their self-esteem and overall academic success. All LEAP teachers expect good attendance of their students so that they can assist them as much as possible. A contract agreement stating the expectations of the program is signed between the student, parents, counselor, administrator and LEAP coordinator. |
The program offers smaller classes and therefore more attention to individual students than larger classes can offer. Close relationships are developed between teachers and students, and these relationships enhance chances for success. All of the LEAP classes count towards graduation credits. Students must take Adolescent Psychology classes. These classes focus on teen issues, self-esteem, general psychology, and social skills/issues. Students can also take Science and English classes which individualize their learning and assist them in mastering basic skills |
