John was elected to the School Board in 2009.  John and his wife, Mary, are life long residents of Wisconsin Rapids and both are graduates of Lincoln High School.  Mary is an educator and teaches math in the Nekoosa School District.  They are parents of two children, one a 2009 LHS graduate and one at East Jr. High.  John owns and operates Air Filter Specialists, LLC, a family owned business established in 1979.  John has been active in PTC organizations at both Children's Choice and Washington Elementary schools.  He was among the last PTC officers at Children's Choice before the building closure.  John helped organize the Children's Choice Scholarship Fund in memory of the school.  The fund is available to former Choice students and is administered by the South Wood County Community Foundation.  Starting in 2003, John served on multiple school district task forces and committees.  In addition, John is a WIAA official in basketball, football, and softball.  He is active in the Rapids Kickers soccer club and a former six-year board member in Wisconsin Rapids Youth Sports (WRYSA).  John is a member of the Elks Lodge #693 and organizes the Elks lenten fish fries, which is one of their major fundraisers.  For recreation, John enjoys golfing with his father and son and attending all sorts of sporting events.
