WRPS students from Lincoln High School, East Junior High, and West Junior High comprise the LHS Math League Team, which competes in the Central Wisconsin Math League, sponsored by UW-Stevens Point. LHS math teacher Cindy Holberg is the moderator of the “Mathletes.” Twelve WRPS students attend each meet representing LHS: four each in the Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced divisions. Students earned berths on the team through a qualifying test at the start of the year or a challenge exam during the year.
At the January 22, 2008, competition, the LHS team placed third in the School Size 1 division (nine teams), with the fifth-best overall team score of the 45 high schools represented.
Senior Ethan Ambroziak placed first overall in the Advanced Division in the meet with a score of 100. Seniors Joe Peterson and Dan Steinke finished 12th and 13th overall in the same division. In the Algebra division, Tom Peterson (EJH), Albert Webster (LHS), Anna Ghandilyan (LHS), and Mitch Wendt (WJH) all placed in the top ten. Jenna Case (EJH) placed 11th in the Geometry division. Also participating on the LHS team were Ethan Frost, Shawn Hilgers (WJH), Katrina Elgersma (WJH), and Frank Vruwink (WJH) .
